President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Singapore next week.
The two leaders are set to co-chair the ASEAN-Russia Summit, which is part of diplomatic meetings under the banner of the ASEAN Summit that starts on Tuesday. Indonesia is this year's coordinator of the ASEAN-Russia dialogue.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir said the meeting between Jokowi and Putin was expected to take place on the sidelines of the 17 meetings during the three-day event.
"It will be a pull-aside meeting with Russia," Arrmanatha said on Thursday. "However, the plans can still change depending on the schedule."
Jokowi is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.
At the ASEAN-Russia meeting, the Indonesian leader would convey the common views of ASEAN member countries to Russia, the Foreign Ministry’s ASEAN external cooperation director, Benny YP Siahaan, said.
Among the priority issues that would be brought up during the meeting were efforts to improve cooperation in cyber security as well as the education sector, he added. (afr)
